Registration for Summer Classes, Workshops, and Camps at The Art School at Old Church is Now Open 

 

Demarest, NJ – The Art School at Old Church is accepting registrations for its summer session, which begins on June 11. The summer semester includes classes for kids, teens, adults, and families; one- and two-day workshops; and the Blast of Art! Summer Camp, a week-long day camp for children ages 6-12.  

 

Registration by mail, fax or hand delivery is available now, and phone registration begins on Tuesday, May 15. Workshops take place from June 11-15, and weekly classes begin June 18. Blast of Art! runs the weeks of August 6 and August 13. Visit www.tasoc.org/summer for more information! 

 

Course offerings include basketry, collage, drawing, jewelry making, painting, photography, pottery, printmaking, sculpture, and more. The Art School offers classes for adults, teens, families, and children – including those with special needs. There are also faculty mentorship opportunities offered for students who want to take a deep dive into a specific art form. 

 

New classes offered this summer include "A Painting Day" with Maud Guilfoyle, "Introduction to Soft Pastel" and "Figure Drawing: Short and Long Pose" with Brian Bailey, "Ceramics from the Beginning" with Michael Niv, and "Drawing & Painting, Foundations" with Vesselina Traptcheva. 

 

Workshops are opportunities to try your hand at something new or to delve deeper into your chosen craft. This summer's workshop offerings will allow students to go home with handmade rings, bracelets, decorative pottery totem poles, paintings on silk, and more. The Friday Fun Day series, running Fridays June 29 through July 27, offers workshops in cell phone photography, bread basket making, basic painting, and daily painting for personal social media cultivation and sales. Two of this summer's workshops are offered by guest faculty: 

 

"Easy-Start Book Arts" is a new workshop offering this summer, taught by guest faculty member Leslie Nobler. Open to students of all levels, the class begins with simple book structures such as accordion fold and moves on to introduce 3-D and/or moving structures. Using collage and a variety of materials, including book boards and fabrics, students will create unique, interactive books. Ms. Nobler holds an MFA from Hunter College, an MA from the NY Institute of Technology, and a BFA from Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan. She is currently an Art Professor at William Patterson University. She has exhibited extensively, including at Noyes Museum of Art, NJ State and Kemper museums, DigitalART Gallery in London, and more.  

 

In "Decorate & Adorn: Bowls, Cups, & Mugs" with guest faculty member Ryan Greenheck, students will explore an array of options to enhance bowls, cups, and mugs, as well as learning wheel-throwing techniques, glazing strategies, and much more! Mr. Greenheck holds an MFA from NY State College of Ceramics at Alfred University and a BFA, BS from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. He is a Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania. His work has been exhibited in numerous national exhibitions and shows, including at TASOC's own Annual Pottery Show & Sale!  

Blast of Art! is a visual arts day camp that gives children ages 6 through 12 the opportunity to paint, draw, create with clay, build models, and much more. Full day (9:00am-2:30pm) and Half Day (9:00am-12:15pm) sessions are available.
