Southern Graphics Council Show Opens
The Mikhail Zakin Gallery is pleased to present the Southern Graphics Council Traveling Exhibition, a nationally touring exhibit of exceptional prints from printmakers across the country. The exhibition will run from May 4 – June 11. The show is wheelchair accessible and free to the public.
This exhibition is comprised of 41 prints by members of the Southern Graphics Council (SGC). They represent a wide variety of printmaking processes and approaches as well as diverse imagery and content. Among the prints on view are woodcuts (prints made from a process of carving blocks of wood and printing each block to make a complete image), intaglio (a printing process involving etching or engraving a metal plate), lithographs (prints made through a process using acid and water to selectively transfer ink to the paper), silk screens (prints made using a mesh screen and an ink-blocking stencil), and monotypes (ink drawings or paintings made on a non-absorbent plate and transferred directly to the paper).
SGC was chartered in 1973 as a non-profit organization to advance the professional standing of artists working in printmaking and drawing, and to stimulate public appreciation for these art forms. Today, SGC is the largest print organization in North America, with over 500 members. It is widely known among printmakers for its annual conference, held each spring at a hosting institution or university.
